Leca stands for Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate and is used as a semi-hydroponic substrate, similar to Lechuza Pon. It also makes a fantastic addition to any potting mix as it helps enhance drainage and aeration in the mix.

Leca is a long-lasting substrate that can be reused over and over again.

If you are worried about any cross contamination between plants, you can boil Leca in water for 10mins to kill any bacteria, pests or diseases that may be present, although a benefit to using Leca is it reduces the risk of pests & root rot in the first place.

Leca provides no nutrients to a plant on its own, so it is best to feed your plants with either GT Foliage Focus or GT Complete Focus regularly. Both include calcium and magnesium and are free of urea and chlorides, which means less risk of fertiliser burn. Both are formulated for hydro and semi-hydro and are super easy to use!

Most plant enthusiasts use Leca with self watering pots, like our 9cm self watering pots, which is basically a net or mesh pot, inside a cover pot that holds water. Alternatively, you can use Leca in glass jars and filling the jar 1/3 with water.
